On 14 March 2023, the UK Medicines regulator approved an application to reclassify the most commonly prescribed medicine as a prescription medicine from a prescription drug. This review provides information about the medicine marketed in the UK and its sales volume, as well as how it is marketed, the applications, and your interactions with its formulations.
The applications were developed to help clinicians identify, classify and inform patients on prescription medicines, and help in early detection of serious side effects. The first application was made on 14 September 2023 for Lamisil, a prescription drug used to treat athlete’s foot (tinea pedis). On 14 March the applicant applied to the General Medical Council to make the switch to a generic equivalent of Lamisil. The application was funded by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
The application was developed to help clinicians identify and classify prescription medicines and application medicines. It involved a cross-refereance process with the MHRA (The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) through an application review panel. Each medicine was reviewed to identify a medicine with sales volume in excess of £25,000 that was being marketed in the UK. The application review panel considered the medicine to be ‘off-label’ and recommended that clinicians prescribe the medicine only in those circumstances where the medicine’s prescribing information shows no indication of the medicine’s potential benefits or risks. This was followed by an application review review review process where the application review panel reviewed the medicine’s sales volume using an ‘aphrodisiac’ classification system. Submissions to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) were required to be published within 6 months of the application application.
Applications can be submitted to the regulatory agency through an online form.
Applications are funded by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Applications must also be submitted to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (GSK), with an application reviewed by an application review panel. The review process is overseen by an MHRA reviewer. Other funding agencies in the UK are listed in the application, along with local authorities, and can also be accessed by clicking on the links below.

Information is also given about the prescription medicines approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The application reviewed applications are sent to the MHRA for their application review review review.
There are several possible interactions with prescription medicines. These can be identified through an online consultation with a pharmacist or doctor. The application review panel may also include pharmacists, nurses, and doctors who are responsible for prescribing the medicine in the UK.
There are also some interactions between prescription medicines and other prescription medicines. These are described below and listed below in more detail.
Information about the prescribing information of the products listed below is sent to the MHRA for its application review review review.
The application review panel also includes a pharmacist, doctor, nurse, and pharmacist who are responsible for prescribing the medicine in the UK.
A pharmacist is also required to provide a copy of the application with each application submission to the MHRA.
